ABOUT CHANDIGARH

Chandigarh is known as the City Beautiful. This planned city derives its name after Chandi – the Goddess of Power. The Open Hand in metal sheet is the official emblem of the city. ‘Open to give and open to receive’. Sukhna Lake is only 5 min. from the institute and little beyond is the world famous Rock Garden.

Chandigarh is about 250 kms to the northwest of Delhi. Taxi services are available to tourist places like Shimla, known as the Queen of the Hills (96km), Mussorie (200 km), Manali (300 km) and Amritsar known as the Pool of Nectar famous for the Golden Temple (240 km).

Chandigarh is well connected by rail, road and air from Delhi and Mumbai. 
ISBT in Sectors 17 & 43. Chandigarh Railway Station is about 05 kms. Shatabadi and Himalayan Queen are daily trains from New Delhi. Chandigarh Airport is 11 kms. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and other flights connect the city with Mumbai, Delhi, Jammu, Leh and Amritsar.

ABOUT NITTTR

The ministry of Human Resource Development Government of  India established four Regional Technical Teachers' Training  Institutes at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai and Kolkata in 1967. These institutes later on in the year 2003 were upgraded and renamed as National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, NITTTR .The Chandigarh Institute is one of these four NITTTRs, started in  collaboration with Royal Netherlands Government (up to 1974). It was designed to meet the requirements of developing technical education in the northern region covering the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh,  Uttrakhand, Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Institute originally was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and is governed by a Board of Governors. The institute started with long term teacher’s training programmes for  polytechnic teachers only, but later it was also entrusted with the responsibility  of promoting curriculum development work for the northern region states not only for polytechnics but also for the engineering colleges. The institute has been recognized as a 'Research Centre' by Panjab University, Chandigarh (in 2006) as well as by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar (Punjab) (in 2005) for pursuing research work leading to the degree of PhD. Apart from conduct of short term courses, workshops are arranged as per the needs of faculty and technical supporting staff at different levels covering new recruits as well as in-service personnel. These are offered in a wide variety of areas subject matter updating, refresher courses, emerging rural and appropriate technologies, managerial expertise, entrepreneurship development, research capability, emerging instructional systems, instructional materials development, multimedia development, laboratory experimentation and innovations, computer education, industry institute interaction, etc for enhancing competence of faculty members.
